Traiteur Amaro
Our flagship spirit, Traiteur Amaro, draws from two traditions of herbal wisdom. In Italy, the bitter tonics that became amari were first crafted by village healers before finding their way into monasteries and apothecaries. In South Louisiana, traiteurs carry forward a living tradition of healing through plants, prayer, and ritual. Named for the Cajun French word traiteur (tray-TUR), meaning healer, our amaro brings these traditions together.
Tasting Notes
Expect warm spiced-tea notes, rounded sassafras and chicory depth, bright mint lift, and a clean gentian bitterness. Equally at home in cocktails, after a meal, or taken as a bold, bittersweet shot.

ABOUT US
Mamou Spirits is a craft botanical spirits brand based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The word Mamou holds many meanings. It is the name of a native medicinal plant with bright red seeds used by traiteurs, a Louisiana town known for its Cajun music and culture, and a Cajun term of endearment for mothers and grandmothers. Some trace the word to a Native American chief, others to mammoth, evoking the region’s vast prairies or prehistoric giants, and others to a community in West Africa that shares the name. We are drawn to the multitudes it contains and aspire to create spirits that honor those layered histories while adding a new chapter of our own.
